![]() Oyster cultivation began over 2,000 years ago when the Romans harvested them from the Adriatic Sea and eventually, from all over the Mediterranean. Today, they are a popular commodity consumed around the world. The most recent oyster-related recalls occured in 20 due to contamination of multiple pathogens.Between 20, at least 340 oyster-associated outbreaks were reported to CDC’s National Outbreak Reporting System (NORS), causing 3,005 illnesses, 87 hospitalizations, and 3 deaths. These pathogens are associated with foodborne outbreaks and can lead to recalls and harvest site closures. Oysters are filter feeders and may harbor harmful pathogens, such as Vibrio, norovirus, and Hepatitis A in their tissue. To ensure the prevention of foodborne disease outbreaks, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans must be in place for processing, packaging, and storage of oysters. There are many harvesting and processing techniques.Oysters are among Florida’s top commercial seafood products in terms of dockside value. In addition to being popular culinary delicacies, oysters help protect coastlines, clean water by filtering, and provide a habitat for many other species such as fish, shrimp, and crabs. OYSTER SPAT FEED PROFESSIONALThe balance of the board members’ individual strengths and professional experiences, combined with their vested interest in the Town of Wellfleet and SPAT’s mission, are part of the reason why SPAT as an organization has been successful, and why the Wellfleet OysterFest® has become such a successful event. Members come from the fields of education, the shellfishing industry, area businesses, non-profit sectors and professional associations. Board members also draw from a diversity of professional experiences and disciplines that represent a unique mix of understanding, knowledge and skills that help direct the organization in the most beneficial way. Together as a group, the board represents individuals who are committed to a thriving shellfishing industry and are invested in the positive public perception of the Town of Wellfleet. The all-volunteer board is made up of ten elected members with three elected officers. The SPAT Board of Directors dedicates itself to ensuring that the organization’s mission is carried out to its fullest potential. To date, SPAT has awarded over $740,000 between the high school scholarship program, its community grants and pandemic relief efforts. Proceeds from these activities support the organization’s educational mission which includes a local college scholarship program, community grant awards and initiatives to support Wellfleet’s shellfishing and aquaculture industries. SPAT produces the Wellfleet OysterFest®, and holds several smaller programs and outreach events each year. Through events and seminars on shellfishing and environmental issues, SPAT celebrates and spreads the word about the town’s famous oysters and clams and its deep-rooted shellfishing traditions. SPAT promotes knowledge and interest in Wellfleet’s shellfishery by educating the community. ![]() The acronym SPAT is also the name for a newly attached baby oyster. SPAT is devoted to sustaining Wellfleet’s shellfishing and aquaculture industries. Wellfleet SPAT, Shellfish Promotion and Tasting, Inc., is a non-profit organization chartered in 2002 – the year after Wellfleet’s first OysterFest. This history created a fertile environment for the Wellfleet SPAT to emerge. Wellfleet, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, has been considered the home of one of the world’s great oyster beds for generations. As I ate the oysters, … and as I drank their cold liquor from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans. ![]() ![]() ![]()
As developers join the Safari Developer Program and create extensions, Apple will begin adding them to a Web-based gallery. #APPLE SAFARI UPDATE FREE#And through its free Safari Developer Program, which also provides resources for developing iPhone/iPad Web apps, developers can register for a digital signature to go with their extensions.Īs of yet, only a few extensions are available on the Web, which isn’t surprising given that Safari 5 was just released. #APPLE SAFARI UPDATE INSTALL#Apple has already provided a tool called Extension Builder to make it easy to package, distribute and install extensions. That’s to ensure an extension hasn’t been altered by a third party and that any updates come from the original developer.Įxtensions can be written with standard Web technologies - HTML, CSS and JavaScript - just as extensions are built for Firefox and Chrome. Extensions will be sandboxed to keep them from gaining unfettered access to Safari itself or to other portions of a user’s computer or data.Īpple also requires that extensions be digitally signed, similar to what’s required for mobile apps in the App Store. That doesn’t mean it’s letting developers run rampant, however. It’s true that other browsers - Firefox, Chrome, and IE all come to mind - have supported extensions for so long that switching to one of those browsers from Safari could easily overwhelm you with the sheer number of extensions available.Įxtensions may not seem like a big deal, but it’s important because it shows Apple is finally keeping pace with rival browser-makers. For a lot of users, browser extensions may seem like a non-event. The most significant addition to Safari is - finally! - support for browser extensions. With the new release, Apple patched security holes, boosted performance, and introduced a handful of features that collectively have the potential to put Safari on par with Chrome and Firefox in terms of core features and performance.īut what will matter most to users are the following five new or updated features. #APPLE SAFARI UPDATE FOR MAC OS X#This safari version will only be available on iPhones hence the other versions are not available yet and we hear no news of any updates any time soon.Although it wasn’t mentioned during Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ keynote address Monday at WWDC, Apple launched an updated version of its Safari Web browser for Mac OS X 10.5.8 and 10.6.2 or higher, as well as Windows XP SP2 or higher, Vista, and Windows 7. #APPLE SAFARI UPDATE UPDATE#Safari has always been quite experimental and its new update is the talk of the town now. Anyhow, we do look forward to seeing the new update soon. We would prefer our address bar to be on top but we're not too sure how we would like the look of the websites then. This satisfies both the kind of users that liked the old version better as well as those that would like to adapt to something new. Users have the option to place their address bar wherever they like which will increase more problems for developers but since users are happy, Apple couldn't care less. The ability to choose the position not only provides more control but way more freedom as well. The new change is bound to create a lot more diversity therefore pleasing more users. This calls for cries from every single user demanding a style with less floating around. It is important to note that Apple never made any big decisions with the layout, sometimes changing the address bar, other times a few control buttons but nothing excessive. ![]() Of course, users never were satisfied with what they got hence the tweaking never stopped. Safari has been the target to all minor changes Apple made in the past with the layout changing every once in a while. This time around, they would be present below and if the user decides to place the address bar on top, then the look will be similar to what we've already experienced before in the iOS 14. If the user decides to place it at the bottom, it will be positioned right above the controls which were previously incorporated in the address bar. Since the address bar can be placed at either position, it will determine the overall outlook. Since the redesign was already receiving the exposure Apple thought it would, it isn't a wonder the tech giant decided to go back to the old format. Furthermore users would also be able to locate the address bar on the screen according to their choice, either the top or the bottom. In the iOS 15 you will observe the old Safari format instead of the current floating one. This opinion is brought about by the tech giant's latest decision to turn the Safari design back to the previous one which the users apparently preferred more. ![]() While technology is generally progressing, however, sometimes, it seems like Apple is regressing. ![]() ![]() ![]() There is no invasion of the healthy tissue at this point. #Define surgical asepsis skin#With critical colonization, the organisms attach to the wound surface, replicate and multiply to a level that affects skin cell proliferation and tissue repair without provoking systemic signs of infection. All chronic wounds are colonized to varying degrees. The bacteria are not pathogenic and do not require treatment. In colonization, microorganisms attach to the wound surface and replicate but do not impair healing or cause signs and/or symptoms of infection. All open wounds have some level of bacterial burden that is ordinarily cleared by the host. Contamination is the presence of non-replicating microorganisms on the surface of the wound. Infection has been defined as a continuum from contamination, colonization, critical colonization, biofilm, and infection. Clean gloves are used along with sterile solution/supplies/dressings that are maintained as clean. No touch is a method of changing surface dressings without directly touching the wound or any surface that might come in contact with the wound. Some authors have made a distinction between surgical asepsis or “sterile technique” used in surgery and medical asepsis or “clean technique” that involves procedures to reduce the number and transmission of pathogens. 3 Aseptic technique is the purposeful prevention of the transfer of organisms from one person to another by keeping the microbe count to an irreducible minimum. #Define surgical asepsis free#Asepsis or aseptic means free from pathogenic microorganisms. Clean technique is considered most appropriate for long-term care, home care, and some clinic settings for patients who are not at high risk for infection and for patients receiving routine dressings for chronic wounds such as venous ulcers, or wounds healing by secondary intention with granulation tissue. This technique may also be referred to as non-sterile. Clean technique involves meticulous handwashing, maintaining a clean environment by preparing a clean field, using clean gloves and sterile instruments, and preventing direct contamination of materials and supplies. 3 Clean technique involves strategies used in patient care to reduce the overall number of microorganisms or to prevent or reduce the risk of transmission of microorganisms from one person to another or from one place to another. Clean means free of dirt, marks, or stains. Sterile technique is considered most appropriate in acute care hospital settings, for patients at high risk for infection, and for certain procedures such as sharp instrumental wound debridement. “Sterile to sterile” rules involve the use of only sterile instruments and materials in dressing change procedures and avoiding contact between sterile instruments or materials and any non-sterile surface or products. ![]() Sterile technique involves meticulous hand washing, use of a sterile field, use of sterile gloves for application of a sterile dressing, and use of sterile instruments. 3 Sterile technique involves strategies used in patient care to reduce exposure to microorganisms and maintain objects and areas as free from microorganisms as possible. Sterile is generally defined as meaning free from microorganisms. The following definitions provide a point of reference for the terms used in this document. ![]() Terms have been used interchangeably and all are subject to individual interpretation. Various definitions and descriptions of dressing technique for wound care exist. Then as now, areas of controversy exist due to a lack of agreement on the definitions of “clean” and “sterile” technique, lack of consensus as to when each is indicated in the management of chronic wounds, and lack of research to serve as a guide. sterile technique and present approaches for chronic wound care management. 1, 2 Its purpose was to review the evidence about clean vs. This document originated in 2001 as a joint position statement from a collaborative effort of the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society and the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. #Define surgical asepsis update#To present an update on the status of information about clean versus sterile dressing technique to manage chronic wounds.
